Jean-Claude Simard was a professor of philosophy at Rimouski College (Quebec, Canada) for many years. He continues to teach history of science and technology at the Université du Québec à Rimouski (UQAR). He believes that scientific culture has won its spurs, for the general public, the scientist or the philosopher. It has become essential in today's world. In 2014, the Quebec Philosophical Society, in which he was actively involved, created the Jean-Claude Simard prize in his honor.
